What kind of leather does American Leather use?

American Leather has one of the largest leather collections in North America.

Our leather is chosen from the top 10% of hides in the world. We regularly scout the world for the most impressive hides and we partner with talented tanneries when highly skilled leather artisans prepare the leather for our manufacturing process.

What is American Leather’s process for making furniture?

Each piece starts off as a drawing by our award-winning design team, which is rendered on computer before it is perfected by an engineer for integrity and accuracy. The virtual model is then delivered to the manufacturing facility to begin physical production. Each part is cut by a computerized CNC router, which can make various sizes and shapes with precision and consistency.

Our system allows technicians to map out and place pattern outlines on the appropriate part of the hide, which ensures minimal waste with the most consistent color and quality.

What kind of leather does American Leather offer?

American Leather offers 3 kinds of leathers based on protection and durability from daily life.

Light Protection:Soft and supple leather. Requires moderate attention to maintain beauty

Medium Leather:Not as soft of Light Protection, does not require as much attention. There’s more protection for all the things that life throws your way

Heavy Protection:Offers the most protection. The heavily pigmented finish coat serves as a barrier to spills, stains and fading.

What is the Light Protection Leather?

The softest and most supple of our leathers, these exceptionally natural, full top-grain, full-aniline hides often have “character marks” on the surface, giving each its own unique look and feel. The natural scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and subtle shading variations are part of each hide’s inherent beauty. They age beautifully and develop a soft patina over time. And like many of the finer things in life, these light protection leathers require moderate attention to maintain their beauty over time.

What is the Medium Protection Leather?

It's not too little. It’s not too much. It’s just right for easy living. These leather hides are among the best in the world, but because of their surface coat, there’s just a little more protection for all the things life throws your way.

What is the Heavy Protection Leather?

These leathers are exceptionally versatile and offer the most protection from life’s everyday mishaps. Excellent for families with children and pets, the heavily pigmented finish coat serves as a barrier to protect from spills, stains, and fading. We feature different options in this category, depending on your lifestyle needs and décor preferences.
