Michael Wolk
"I don't design because I know the answer; I design to discover the answer". This statement forms the basic foundation for Michael Wolk, who for over 30 years has been one of America's most prolific and innovative designers.
With a broad background that encompasses graphic and furniture design, interiors for commercial and residential developers as well as architectural and engineering expertise, Michael Wolk brings detailed knowledge, extensive experience and creative vision to a wide-variety of unique projects and clientele. His distinct and innovative style, often described as "Neo-Modern", marries the exuberance of dynamic American modernism with the grace and refinement of European tradition.
Wolk graduated with honors from New York's prestigious Pratt Institute and worked on John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Joko Recording Studio and their private residence in the famed Dakota. He then moved to Miami and began designing furnishings for high-end clients who were interested in sophisticated unique pieces. The furniture began to appear in collector's homes and corporate lobbies as well as galleries. They were pieces of art which served a function, or furniture grounded in artistic tradition.
Based in Bauhaus principles in which minimalism and form take precedence over ornamentation, Wolk's furniture moved from ‘one off's' to mass production. Today, more than thirty American, European, and Asian manufacturers license individual pieces as well as complete lines.
Most recently, Wolk created several collections of artwork for Rosenbaum Fine Art.
Interior design clients are always discriminating, perhaps even demanding when it comes to their desire for distinct, timeless, classic, yet forward thinking interiors. With Wolk's spaces, they get what they imagined and much more. The firm's residential projects include some of the preeminent private homes and penthouses in Golden Beach, Coral Gables, Miami Beach and other deluxe Florida communities, as well as in Key West, the Bahamas and New York.
"A-List" real estate developers in South Florida demand breathtaking public spaces for their residential clients. The list of recent projects created by Michael Wolk Design Associates includes 500 Brickell (Related Group), Trump Grande and Trump Royale (Dezer/Trump developers), Diplomat Ocean Residences (Taylor Woodrow), Lyghte (The Davis Companies), The Clubhouse at Biscayne Landing (Boca Developers) and The Presidential in Boca Raton. They are also currently at work on the first new hotel to be built on Miami Beach's historic Ocean Drive in decades, the aptly named 620 Ocean Drive ( Tony Goldman Properties).
